Description

12” x 12” oil on stretched linen.

This piece goes back several years ago, when the remains of King Richard III were exhumed from a car park in Leicester. Phil was commissioned to do a few paintings, of which this is one.

That's the nuttiest historical note I've read on CAF today, and what a compelling painting this is! Crazy composition and color choices, but I love it. That nearly centered eye socket with ratiating straight lines really makes it work for my taste. Superb handling of the skull and other surfaces, as per Hale's usual

Phil gets the most unusual commissions. Great story and event to be a part of. Love the purple in the shadows.
