The very best commissions are all about the right artist with the right subject and inspiration. When a good one hits, it's lightning in a bottle!
So awesome to see this one again. It has long been one of my very favorite Dredd images.
I had hoped if/when Carl let this one go, I might be lucky enough to get it from him. It has long been my oersonal favorite Jones piece. You are so very lucky to have it!
When I first saw it, I wondered if the pose ever made an appearance in one of his other works, it definitely feels gamiliar to see, and we know how often Phil will revisit certain references and stances, even though different shots or angles.
If you didn't see it, click on the link for the Sequential gallery that all these pages are gathered in. I wrote a bit about them.
If ever there was an anthology of Marquis stories, JAL would be a must!
Mikes work was so singular on this series
I think back fondly to the days when this book was hitting the stands. I had followed Ennis, Dillon and Fabry over from their stint on Hellblazer, where I was already a huge fan, so buying Preacher was a no brainer for me. And one of my absolute favorite things every month was seeing what Glenn would stick on the cover. His art looked like no one elses, and was a regular treat for the eyes. Even the ones I liked less than others, it was still going to be a good time no matter what. This is a stellar example. Perfect on characters, on feel, in execution. Beautifully composed. Ya done good!

I think about this piece sometimes, and of the phone fall to Four Color Gallery to buy it right before they closed up shop. And how, maybe I should have hung onto it? But now I think, perhaps it ended up where it belonged all along! Thanks for posting it for all to see.
Strid is great. This one especially lovely. Total modern Ophelia vibes.
Thanks. And you can call me a loon, but I thought it was incredibly fair, and in fact, quite cheap for the prominence the painting still has in Phil's ovure. What's more, the day I paid for it, I was informed that the seller had been offered $3k more than I'd paid for it to sell it to someone else, and they offered to put me in touch with that individual. So I guess I am not the only loony. :)
Appreciate it. I was truly afraid someone that pays attention would beat me to it while i was in the midst of my due dilligence. I already have the frame underway (I had some molding here at the house so I cut it down and made the frame myself) will post a pic when the glue is dry and the piece is hung.
A beautiful piece of the artform doing what it does.
Certainly the most quotable sequence of Hellboy panel dialogue. I have said this countless times out loud to friends. Often to confused faces. Love it!
This is so great. Makes me think of many things. One of them is Gerhard Richter's realism period. But the addition of the trxtural element to shake the work loose of looking like a photo is great.
color me jealous.
Hey, I know this one well. I remember unboxing it in front of our dog Levi. He growled at it. He had never reacted to any kind of photo or 2D art before. It was pretty hilarious. He came in the room where it hung and for like a week he wasnt happu about it.
Needless to say, Jem knows how to paint! Good score.
Hah. Sure. I just called him bubbles cause that's what the dots made me think of, and cause calling it wash head is just so boring. He is such a jaunty colored fellow. :)
