Back in the late 90s/early 2000s there was a DC Direct figure of Wonder Woman with an axe, and it seems like an accessory that's popped up every so often when she's had a figure released since.
I have to drop Mark a line anyway, so I can ask if he remembers the reason for the axe's inclusion.

Meciful Minerva! The blood drip and the skintone shading fills out that armor for the warrior look! Her battle axe comes into play when the Amazons are at war!
I'd rather not get in the way of this Wonder Woman Amazon either 🫣.
