DescriptionI am a Space:1999 Nerd. Back in the 70’s I probably liked that show even more than Star Trek and Star Wars. What really impacted me was the supremely cool production design elements, like Moonbase Alpha, Main Mission, Comlocks, the unique Lower case “n” shaped blasters, Alpha’s transportation tubes. But, by far, the coolest of them all were the Eagles. The workhorse spaceships of Moonbase Alpha were the best designed spaceships in all of Sci Fi up to that point, and might still be in the top 5 today. They were so sweet that George Lucas recruited their Designer, Brian Johnson, to work on Star Wars. (And legend has it, the "Millenium Falcon" name was inspired by the Space 1999 Eagle. IN fact, the original design for the Falcon was much closer to the Eagle than the version we all know about today. See the connection? Who knows if its' true, but it sure is interesting).Back in the 70’s I also had multiple Dinky Toy Eagles, along with the big plastic Mattel Eagle. Even today, I have three die cast Eagle replicas. So to be able to get a page of Space: 1999 art by Gray Morrow, featuring not only Commander John Koenig (Martin Landau), Dr Helena Russell (Barbara Bain) and Dr. Victor Bergman (Barry Morse), but 3 panels with Eagles featured in them in some manner, was an opportunity I could not pass up. That panel where the Eagle is partly in shadow is extremely nice. The Art from the magazine, and later Charlton comic series, featured some heavy hitters in Comic Art, including the aforementioned Morrow, but also Neal Adams and John Byrne. I’m really happy with this oversized piece. Social/Sharing |

Morrow really excels outisde of the superhero genre as you can see he grounds his illustrations with realism. Looks incredible with cinematic non character scenes of space and old war torn planetscape.

This is a great page! Congratulations! I'm also a huge fan of Space 1999, although I'm one of those guys who likes the first, but not the second, season.
