Description

1001 Emerald Nights
written by Terry Laban with all painted art by Rebecca Guay.

An Elseworlds tale
Scheherazade spins a tale of Al Jhor Dan, his magic lamp with a green genie and the Sultan's daughter.
This is the last panel of the tale after Jhor Dan has defeated the evil vizier and his genie and married the Sultan's daughter.
It seems that Rebecca painted many of the pages in the book as single panels

When the words
Weigh Terry Laban heart
I am lost
And lead only by the art

Guay me like an Emerald
A crown with gems and gold
Scheherazade beautiful
Chasing the Rayner throne

Breathe in, green out
Let Al Jhor Dan in
Breathe in, green out
And let him in
Plans awoke
And they slowly grow
Vizier Ibn
So geen in, green out
Let Al Jhor Dan win

This piece just sparked a memory from sometime around 2003 to 2005. I was at SDCC and I clearly remember many collectors talking about Guay. She seemed to be hot and in demand at that show. Do you know if that might've been due to this project, Miki?

I beleive the fuss was about a bit of controvery  surrounding work for  Magic the Gathering

Hmmm, while that IS a pretty interesting story, it has a negative slant to it. My memory is that everyone seemed to be buying or wanting to buy all her art. Does Black Orchid ring any bells? Maybe she did some Black Orchid art that was hot for while?

She she did do Black Orchid, but her art for MTG was a fan favorite. I think the buzz I heard at San Diego was fans rallying to her support and people probably pcking up her art since it could be the last Magic art that mifgt be available from her.

Okay, that makes sense. I think I may just be remembering Black Orchid being a part of this memory because after seeing that she seemed very popular, I asked someone who she was and what she had done, since I hadn't heard of her until then and I was told she had drawn Black Orchid.
