Black Cat by Lucas Werneck

It's no secret that Lucas Werneck was most likely my most unexpected and liked artist of last year. Despite being one of Marvel's Stormbreakers, I never considered him for commissions, as he works exclusively digital (and he's more present in the X-Men sphere).

At Dutch Comic Con last year, that changed. He created one of my favorite renditions of Mary Jane. That piece is not just great because of that beautiful MJ, but especially, because of the storytelling he put into that commission.

I loved it that much that a few days after the show, I messaged Lucas to set up two companion pieces: a Black Cat & a Gwen Stacy. While it took a while as he typically does not take any commissions, the wait was more than worth it. These commissions are insanely polished pieces. Unfortunately, the scan misses a few marker details.

The sultry look. The handwriting and tone of voice. The colour tones and shading. It all helps in establishing a mood and creating a certain feeling. It's not just a bust drawing; Lucas is telling a typical Spider-Man/Black Cat story here in a single image.

Size is 11x17 and this was done in pencils, inks and colour markers. For anyone interested, Lucas is represented by Chiaroscuro Studios and does commissions at their online convention.
