Description

Jim Lee has been and will always be my favorite comic book artist. He may not have been the first penciler whose art I enjoyed (that honor goes to Art Adams, another one of my faves), but he was the first artist who I truly became a DIEHARD FAN of and chased from one comic book series to another. In addition to loving his drawing style, I also thought it was so cool to see a fellow Asian American become a superstar in the comic book industry. So of course a piece from Jim has been a grail of mine for some time.

Last weekend, Jim was at SC Comicon, and his art rep (Albert Moy) announced that he had a few spots for buck slips (3.75" x 7.5") open. I never moved more quickly in my life! I struggled to decide what I wanted him to draw (Psylocke? Gambit?) but eventually settled on Chun-Li, mostly because I've only seen him draw her once. The day after the con, Albert sent me a picture of Jim with the completed sketch.

Every artist I've commissioned to do Chun-Li has drawn her in her signature Street Fighter 2 outfit with the covered hair buns, but Jim actually went with her newest Street Fighter 6 outfit with the uncovered hair buns and chest opening. I love the detailed hair and may have Scott Williams tighten up the piece someday. Aiming for a larger Jim Lee commission next!

Great opportunity! Jim Lee was definitely inspired to do these with the quick turnaround.
