DescriptionMeeting in the late 1940's through Roy Krenkel at Burne Hogarth's Art School Frank Frazetta and Al Williamson ended up working together on John Wayne Adventure Comics. Williamson was a bit shy about putting down an ink line, but not so his partner the great Frank Frazetta! What followed were some of the most stylistic westerns ever done. Even John Wayne himself approved! This is the last story the duo did for the series and Wow, they seem to have hit their grove! While Al seems to be doing most of the work with the heavy shading, you can recognize Fritz's hand especially in the fine linework of panel 2! Each panel (especially 2, 3 & 4 (with an "A.W.) who could that be?) a visual feast! Here in the story "The Ugly Duckling Bandit" Nathanial Hilton, who has a horrific face branding given him by his abusive father, has been made a pariah in his town, so he robs the local bank, but a young child removes his mask exposing him to all. He escapes with a large amount of gold only to be pursued by a posse. ***I'm looking for page 29 of the story, if have a line on this, please LMK *** Social/Sharing |

Great inking! The kid actually looks like a kid and we get very natural expressions and body language from the characters. Even the horse has a verisimilitude about him.
