DescriptionI met Ed at the first Hershey Comic Con in 2012, where he was sharing a table with CJ Henderson. Long story short I ended up spending most of my budget for the con at his table, and a few months later I commissioned two pieces from him, of which this is one.Ed deviated from the template I had for my gun mage commissions at that point, and I loved all his changes. He was the first artist to alter her hairstyle from a ponytail, and he redid her pistols from the original Art Deco ray gun design to a more modern style. I also liked how she’s holding the gun backwards in her left hand. The original design for the gun mage had somewhat ridiculous placement of guns and their holsters, which I suspect was a subtle nod to the fact that in combat gun mages get up to all sorts of tricks with their firearms, as well as acrobatics worthy of 1990s wire-fu from Hong Kong cinema. I commissioned this before Clyde Caldwell did a redesign from the chaps in my original painting of Mimi to the jeans she’s had in every commission since. Maybe someday I can commission Ed again to depict her in jeans. Social/Sharing |

She's holding two guns, and her holsters have guns already, so where does she store the two guns that she's holding? I like the Baroness look to her face with the thin glasses. Great eye appeal by Coutts.

The design for this gun mage ensemble has them wearing four holsters, two on each hip, one behind the other. The mage gun designs are much smaller than real pistols, due to them being alchemically and magically powered, so they’re small enough to have two on each hip in a holster. The other two holsters are flush against the back of the front holsters depicted in the picture.
I liked how when Caldwell did my grail he changed it to a third pistol worn at the small of the back, and since then I haven’t had anyone go with the four-gun setup.
