DescriptionOne of my favourite female super heroes, Valkyrie had a few incarnations, the most long lasting being the one birthed in Defenders 4, through the scheming of the devious Asgardian goddess the Enchantress. Defenders 5 was the issue where her personality was established more clearly. Valkyrie was wonderfully characterised by Englehart (and by later writers Gerber and Kraft as well), rich with contradictions and nuances: an apparently frail body with super strength; and an assertive warrior with a desperate need to find herself and to belong.McLaughlin was one of the best inkers on early Sal, with a confident trait and square angles, anticipating Sal's style in the last phase of his career. Very happy to have secured a "Val" page from Sal's wonderful run on the Defenders. Long live the Defenders and in particular the B characters populating that run! Social/Sharing |

Wow, wow, wow! What a fantastic early page! And a Valkyrie page no less. I can only imagine how happy you are to get this. Congratulations my friend. This is a true gem of a Defenders page.

Valkyrie centric page putting her in various poses that emphasizes her strength and femininity! Scenes like this would leave a lasting imprint.

Fantastic early Defenders page by Sal Buscema. It's a fun page with lots of great scenes featuring Valkyrie! Love that first panel with Hulk disappearing while Valkyrie continues to fall. Fun-tastic rescue by the Black Knight's winged steed, Pegasus! I love that final panel with the closeup of Valkyrie's face. She's never looked better. Just an all around terrific Defenders page. Great pick-up, congrats!
