Agent May Frayn talks with Sigmund, Alpha Agency's resident data nerd, about financial irregularities surrounding the construction of the submerged hotel. Then May gets menaced by the culprits, who overhear their discussion. I appreciate that the villains in this story are not dumb; they watch the heroes carefully and respond quickly to the changing scenario:
“I'm sure of it, May, you know that I always take a thousand precautions! While we were connected, someone was spying on your work.”
“It was definitely Sara. Yes! Sara connected to another terminal! Did she also see that I was in communication with you?”
“Impossible. Now my task is finished, and I have already memorized all the evidence of the scam.”
“Thanks, Siggy. If I need I'll call you.”
“So I was right. Sara used cheap, sub-standard materials for the reclamation... and what's more, they were unsuitable for the area we had to reclaim! In practice we have worsened the pollution in the area, instead of improving it!”
“Yes... and Sara stashed the money she saved in secret accounts.”
“Now I'm going to look for Sara. She has seen herself unmasked and must be trying to disguise herself! Then we'll call Legs. In light of what we've discovered, the matter with the aquatic mutants changes a lot!”
" Yes, of course... you're right... but what about Sara?”
“The charges against her are very serious, and she will end up in prison! Among other things, I wouldn't be surprised if accomplices turned up in the ensuing investigation...”
(Shon appears, brandishing a pistol at May.) “The accomplices are already here, beautiful!”
On the intervening pages, the bad guys force May to send a bogus "all clear" signal to lure Legs back to the hotel. But May speaks in an overly formal fashion to alert Legs to the danger. The villains notice her ploy:
“All right, Frayn. Everything went well here. See you in half an hour!”
“Great. Frayn out.”
“Well done. You're not stupid, apparently. But what duties did your colleague have, exactly?”
“A patrol to check the state of the water; nothing more.”
(Sara thinks to herself:) “May used a much friendlier tone with Legs last time. This time was some kind of warning sign. Legs definitely understood... but Shon didn't notice anything!”
(Legs speaks to Norton:) “Something's wrong... from the way she spoke to me, my colleague May Frayn is in danger! Rooper suspected deception on the part of one of his business associates, and May was looking through her files to find out if her suspicions were correct.”
“This story is getting complicated, it seems. What are you going to do?”
Each page has one panel with more dialogue than would fit on the original art page, so a patch panel on the back moved the characters lower to accommodate all the words. This happens frequently in Italian comics.
