Bad guys were pointing a gun at May Frayn and Dan Rooper, until an unexpected tidal wave sank the submersible hotel holding them all. As the initial chaos dies down, the heroes assess their new situation.
“…And the others ran away!”
“Come on, Dan. One more effort and you're there!”
“Ugh... My word, if I make it out alive, I'll go on a diet!”
“I'm glad...ugh... That you haven't lost your sense of humor.”
“Yeah... but that's just to cover up the fact that I'm terrified! Good heavens! What a mess! The technicians are... are they dead?”
“I'm afraid so, Dan. I don't know why you wanted to come here. I think the control computers are all destroyed too!”
“We have an advanced security system, with the most efficient secondary energy generators...”
“Okay, but what exactly are you looking for?”
“I want to check if the pneumatic devices of the stabilizing tanks still work. By activating them we could try to put the hotel back upright and make it resurface. The system is down, but maybe I can fix it.”
“He’s dead?”
“Unfortunately, like his colleague, he didn't make it. They weren't as lucky as us.”
Rooper must weigh at least 250 pounds. Do I believe that he could hang on by his fingers, or that May could pull him onto the ledge? This is what Walt Disney called the "plausible impossible."
