Description
One of my favorite X-Men runs ever. Whedon and Cassaday brought back the focus on the core team with epic stories, unforgettable character moments, distinctive art and NO reliance on crossovers, events and overcomplex continuity.

Took me a long time to find this example as I wanted a piece where you would immediately recognize the run and that would also be spectacular in itself. There are some very cool covers and panel pages but they did not work for me : it's with DPS like these, with their big widescreen scope and their crazy level of details, that Cassaday's talent shines the most imho.

So I could not be happier ! I just hope it won't take another 20 years before I read new X-Men stories that I enjoy as much as this perfect Whedon/Cassaday run.

Awesome piece! And love your description. This was the book that reminded me why the X-Men were always my fav marvel team and fave comics team of all time. Congrats on owning such a masterfully eXciting piece. I'll bet you find new details in it each time you stop to bask in its glory!

Incredible DPS design!  Cassady uses three levels of line weights to keep Wolverine and his magnificent flying machine in focus!

Agreed the interior work on this run is in most cases superior to the covers.  Great example of Cassaday's art, I too wish to see him again on the XM!

Glad that you were able to pick up a DPS that spoke to you from this run.  Loved the Whedon/Cassaday Astonishing run and briefly owned a page from it, but I've been looking for that "right" page for some time.  Congrats!

Huge congrats!  This is one of my favorite comics runs ever as well, let alone an X-Men run.  Perfect blend of story and art over a sustained time if I've seen it and this is a GREAT example.  Cinematic feel, baby, and as you note, instantly recognizable as Cassaday.  Love it!

Wow! Wow! Wow! Jawdropping DPS by John Cassidy for Astonishing X-Men! I am blown away by this scene of Wolverine riding this flying motorcyle. Where the hell does someone get the reference material to draw a futuristic motorcycle that fies through the air? Cassidy's invention here is mindblowing. Now I'm gonna have to chase down this run of Astonishing X-Men to see how this all came about!

One of the few perfect runs in X-Men history and the original artwork in the flesh is sublime.

This is a stunning piece of artwork! John Cassaday left us too early and will be sorely missed.
