DescriptionGambit from “Remember it” by Tyrell CannonI have really enjoyed Tyrell Cannon’s Art for a while and when he opened his Heroes Con list I jumped at the opportunity. I requested Gambit from his last battle with the Sentinels in the X-Men ‘97 episode 5 “Remember it” Tyrell made it so dynamic. I loved how this turned out. X-Men ‘97 was a love letter to X-Men and X-Men fans. The fifth episode “Remember it” was an incredible emotional apex One thing I think was a really interesting story choice the creators made which I think was absolutely intentional to increase the emotional impact of the massacre, none of the characters were in costumes. They were all in civilian garb and it made it harder despite the powers that these were people getting killed, we did not get to separate ourselves by saying it was just a super heroes battle. And damn Gambit… for me Gambit has always felt like a character who was thought of as cool because they told us he was cool but this was the first time I saw him and went. Oh my gosh, he’s so cool. “Remember it” I had so many emotions. It elevated the character by showing us exactly who he was. The episode had so many moments that just emotionally punched me in the gut. The haunting rendition of Ace of Base, Madelyn realizing Cable was Nathan and her saying. “You survived.” Fills my heart and breaks it at the same time. It was just a great half hour of television. And a great distillation and adaptation/remix on some of X-Men’s strongest elements. The work this series has done with Magneto had been phenomenal. The flashback to the camps… and when he said in German “Don’t be afraid”I swear that is what his mother said before they were separated. And that he fought a fascist robot with a train is both poignant and awesome. Social/Sharing |
