An eBay win from a little while back. I'm a big fan of Sprouse's work on Legionnaires, and I remember being over the moon when this piece popped up on eBay, because any Legion work by him is notoriously hard to come by, these days. That was definitely reflected by how hot the auction got, but this piece was worth every penny! Even if I never come across another Sprouse piece for sale, I'm very happy to have a piece featuring all three of the Legion's founders. I'm not sure whether this was originally a convention sketch or a private commission, but it's very similar to many of the Sprouse con sketches kicking around CAF.

Sprouse designed the uniforms and overall appearances for this version of the Legion, and I think his familiarity with them really shows here. My favourite little detail he included is how even though Saturn Girl's hair is covering her ear, you can still see a little bit of the rings from one of her Saturn earrings poking out from behind it. I also love the expressions he gave to each founder. Cosmic Boy is collected and proud, Saturn Girl is bright and maybe just a little sly, and Live Wire is smug and confident. Definitely a great representation of the Legion's core by one of its definitive artists!

Legion pages were hard to get when Sprouse first sold his artwork in the 90's. His convention sketches were always top notch as he took his time with each piece. Nicely staggered to get all three centrally posed in a circle.
