DescriptionThis cel is from season 1, episode 6 called "The Survivor". The cel is a bit of a spoiler-alert but I'm thinking something from October 13, 1973 is ripe for being spoiled. The cell features a shapeshifting creator carrying Captain Kirk. If you do watch the episode, this scene goes by pretty quickly but lets say it is important to the story. I also received the pencil drawing along with the cel.The story involves a shapeshifting creature that has turned into a missing philanthropist. Once on the Enterprise, he transforms himself into Captain Kirk and tries to take the ship into a Romulan trap, while the real Captain Kirk is tied up. The problem is the actual philanthropist had fallen in love with a woman that is now on board the Enterprise. It is that love that causes the shapeshifter to eventually save the Enterprise. And here's the background of the series for those that are unfamiliar. The following is taken from Wikipedia: The series was produced by Filmation in association with Paramount Television and ran for two seasons from 1973 to 1974 on NBC, airing a total of twenty-two half-hour episodes. An early Filmation proposal for this series had children assigned to each of the senior officers as cadets, including a young Vulcan for Mr. Spock. According to interviews with Norm Prescott, Paramount offered Roddenberry a substantial sum of money to abandon creative control of the project and let Filmation proceed with their "kiddy space cadet" idea. Roddenberry refused. Filmation would later develop the idea into its own original live action program, Space Academy, in 1977. The writers of the animated series used, essentially, the same writers' guide that was used for the live-action Star Trek: The Original Series. Social/Sharing |

So cool. I always thought that these cels were underappreciated.
Glad you picked some up.
