Tom Grummett - Batman vs Superman (2004) - inspiration for the movie poster ?

I agree, this beautiful piece must have some connection with the Batman v Superman movie project.  Given how slow Hollywood moves sometimes, the powers-that-be were probably contemplating this movie theme back then.  Nice add!

As you say, Gal, two characters facing off is an extremely common trope and the odds that the movie people had ever laid eyes on a random convention sketch makes me think Grummett was mentioned due to his part in the Death Of Superman. But that aside, who cares? All that matters in my mind is that it's a great looking illustration of the Big Two facing off and the camera angle really heightens the power and drama! Kudos on acquiring it.

Gorgeous face-off of Batman and Superman by the incredibly talented Tom Grummett. It does look like the movie poster but regardless, it's a beautifully rendered pairing of DC's two biggest heroes. I love the slight upward angle on the pair, it really accentuates their power and strength. The expressions on their faces are perfect, each one checks the other out in a silent confrontation. I love that each holds up one clenched fist, as if to say "You start something, I'll finish it." Beautiully composed and artfully pencilled. Too bad he didn't ink it--It would be nice to have it fully finished. Great pick-up, congrats!
