Description
I have been always fascinated with Japanese culture, and asked Dave for a "his and her" combination of pieces this year that would be a bit outside the box of typical commission requests he probably gets. So, my wife and I asked for a Samurai and Geisha when we found out he was going to be attending SDCC this year.

This piece really is a show stopper. So bright, vibrant, and amazing to see in person. I know I've said it before, but it always amazes me what he comes up and creates - time and time again.

If this is truly the end of his visits to SDCC (never say never though, right?) and, as a result, the end of these types of commissions from him, he definitely provided amazing artwork consistently throughout.

Thanks to Scott for continuing on with Allen Spiegel Fine Arts being at SDCC this year, and Dave for taking the time to create this piece. Can't express my gratitude for having these opportunities through the years.

This is an amazing commission! Dave absolutely knocked it out of the park! I love the look of the Geisha, the color palette really accentuates the feel and look of  classical Japanese art.  A Definite show stopper is 100% correct!

A visual experience unlike anyone else!  A symphony of colors from the big and bold strokes to the intricate patterns, McKean has a full command to bring the genuine impression of being in front of a geisha when you first encounter one with the full face plaint.  You really can't look away as you either admire or try to figure out the person underneath.

I love this piece so much.  It's currently the wallpaper on my computer.

That's super cool.  It's definitely one of my favorites that I have gotten from him.  Glad you like it!  ❤️

Maybe I'll have to ask you for some sort of Wally Wood-esque SciFi inspired piece with a Samurai protecting a Geisha in distress from a horde of killer robots and Xenomorphs on Venus.  😁

Another jawdropping addition to your Dave McKean collection. It's always such a pleasure to return to your site and peruse the marvelous pieces you display. This one is particularly striking to me for the way it seems to capture the essence of Japanese culture. The Geisha's face, the flowers, the colors of the painting itself, all seem to me as Japanese in feeling. Stunning pick-up, congrats!

Hi Bill.  Hope all is well with you.  Appreciate your comments and checking out my collection.  Definitely agree with you on all points, and consider myself very lucky in the commission department in the results I have gotten from artists through the years.  Have a happy 4th, and hope our paths will cross sooner vs later.
