DescriptionOne of my first pieces of art from SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN retrieved at SDCC 2024.During SDCC 2024, I was looking to be inspired or reinspired to dig into a series, after the massive end of the X-Men Krakoan era which left me a bit depressed. I was going to con for 5 things: -pick up some Josh Cassara art and commission piece -see my friend Kevin Vanhook and pick up a piece of his early art that he was holding for me -go to the X-Men panel and either get X-cited for whats next or start thinking about the end of chasing all the X books -go to various comic panels and see what might inspire my next adventure in comics -have fun and meet up with old and new friends, looking at comic art, eating lots of good food and escaping home for a while with my partner I accomplished all of these SDCC goals this year and this piece comes from one of my goals to get reinspired for another series. I already really enjoyed SIKTC but had taken a break for the past year or so. After seeing a few BOOM! panels, especially the one focused on SIKTC with James Tynion IV and Wether Dell’Edera, I really lit up with excitement for catching up and seeing what’s to come. The previous day, we saw some art by Crees Lee when walking around and got a few smaller card size pieces that we felt like needed to be in our home and saw this piece but didn’t want to start spending inappropriately so early on at con. After the panel we headed straight down back to his booth to purchase this piece that caught our eye from this awesome series with a crazy fun character. This is the cover variant for SIKTC #25, the BOOM! publisher variant (The Comic Book Dealer limited 300 book) that came out last year at comic con of 2023. It features Charlotte Cutter on the cover in a very early cover appearance (I think Mack’s pack has her on issue #24 cover but that set may have come out after this #25 variant). She is a killer of a character and this issue is a heartbreaking monumental issue. For the art getting this character in this particular outfit, with bandana on head, showing one of her eyes and with her whip was perfect. It’s great art to represent something I really enjoy. This was a great addition to our con, meeting the artist Crees Lee, hearing about how he creates this art and got to do a fun cover of this really deadly cool character early on in her comic history. Getting a piece like this from a series I really enjoy and so very happy to be back reading the Slaughterverse. This piece was definitely the bow on top of our comic con experience (now knowing this character a lot better she really doesn’t care too much for bows but that’s we’ll work with that). I’ve spent the last week enjoying the original series and now the spin-offs, which we were happy to hear that the Cutter House will get some more play as noted during SDCC. Social/Sharing |

Love her peeking expression, the tones, and that background adds a nice contrast. Great looking piece, man, as well as being an equally great memento from SDCC 2024! Congrats!

Always great to get inspired! I'll have to check out this series at some point.

Bold energetic lashing lines in the foreground contrasted with the lighter wash used for the woods. Nice peek a boo pose showing a playful charisma to Cutter. A great pick up making SDCC 2024 a memorable success!

Great to meet you at the show James, and congrats on walking away with such an epic piece. Creees is an amazingly talented artist and the composition and execution on this are superb!

Congrats, sir! So, the big question is... are you x-cited for the next phase of X-Men or are you through with everything?

Currently less X-cited after the X-Men panel, will see how it all comes together and hope they don't write the new series as if the last few years didn't exist but per the panel I feel like they want to move in a different direction. Looking forward to a few of the new series but overall, per the panel and Tom B heading X it doesn't look good, his stated goal was to be top seller, that is not a goal that works well for trying to sell good and interesting books, not what should be the focus for these top notch characters and teams. If they weren't fully on top with Krakoa era then the goal should be to minimize and focus on solid story and art instead of dilluting the water with random books and stories that don't connect.
But there is still some hope, so we'll see, just seeing and hearing lack of cohesive vision for overall world of X from the panel.

Cool cover for a great modern series/title! Sounds like you had a great gameplan for SDCC glad you were able to enjoy the experience.

It was fun sitting in on the SIKTC panel even if I was secretly waiting for the one after it. It's been on my to-read list for a while and after the panel I looked into hardcover editions haha. Cool character design and cover! That's great that you found a cool SIKTC piece on the SDCC show floor after the panel.
