DescriptionAnother check off the list this week! I enjoyed the earlier Ultimate FF run, particularly the intro of the Marvel Zombies. Zombie Reed particularly freaked me out a bit, but in a good way – good readin’! These 2 back-to-back pages are from the second arc featuring the zombie FF with Reed (non-zombie Ultimate Reed pre becoming the Maker) and Doom dealing with the fallout of a…little mistake he made.Cool transition page. Doom had switched bodies with Reed, but as there’s a world to save due to Doom’s mistake while in Reed’s body, the real Reed in Doom’s body (got it?!) is ready and willing to sacrifice himself to save the world. And gets a nice rib in prior to :) See additional images for published. But Doom’s pride won’t give him that honor even if it means his own end. NO way Reed gets the glory. Love that about the page, as it’ s indicative of Doom’s character, in addition to the pages lookin’ so good. That last panel of the first page is a combo of the panel before it and the first of the next page where the bodies swap back – an overlay of Reed over Doom. I may get a stat to fill that panel at some point but I also kinda like explaining why it’s blank. So yeah, we’ll see. Thanks, PS, for parting with ‘em! Social/Sharing |

Never got into the original FF, so it was easy to get into the Ultimates version. Land did some nice work on this series when he left out the nsfw faces. 😮 Great example!

If Doom leaves Reed now
Doom'll take away the biggest art of Reed
Ooh, no, zombies please don't go
And if Sue leaves Reed now
Sue'll take away the very heart of Reed
Ooh, no, zombies please don't go
Ooh, girl, I just want Ultimates
The art that's yours is love that's hard to find
How could Reed let it rip this page
Reed's come too far to leave it all behind
How could Reed end it Ultimates
When tomorrow comes and we both regret
The Thing Greg Land he made

"Ooh, nom zombies please don't go" - I sang that one out loud a few times :)
Love you how make this one about Reed, put peppered in the others featured! You a maestro, my friend, you a maestro!
Thanks, Marcus, and all, for the comments!

With page 19 panel 4 matching up with page 20 panel one, how could you NOT want both ofthese pages? I've always had a soft spot for consecutive pages that seem to pair up together, and can you blame me? I really like the Matt Ryan inks over Land's pencils as well. I've always thought that he gave Land a beautiful finish.

Exactly, Ruben, the ol' "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" phrase absolutely applies! Love having both of those body swap panels in the back to back pages - displays so well and gives you the whole story, so to speak. I have maybe 5 other back to back OA duos but looking to add a few more. Thanks, man!

You always want Dr Doom against the FF, no matter what the storyline is or who the artist might be. Great pick up!

The cult of Sal Buscema demanded that I had to let these go. Got three pages from the same Buscema Hulk issue though. Still miss these and the Cassaday page you got from me.

Beautiful work - Matt Ryan was SUCH a great inker for Greg Land - For a Fantastic story beat. Reed shows Doom that he can still "out heart" him here, even from within the confines of a seemingly impossible mental trap. Flat out gorgeous top panel of Doom on page 20, and a fun character moment (and choice) for both men. A sweet re-interpretation of the classic Lee/Kirby story by Millar; part of his brilliant, high octane, pedal-to-the-metal Ultimate FF run, and you Landed some killer pages from it (so to speak :) )! Great pick ups, K!

Oh man, I loved the stories in Ultimate Fantastic Four, and here you have a FANTASTIC two-page sequence from one of my favorites. That crackling energy in those two money panels is incredible, and then you get that emotional reunion between Reed and Sue, and then Doom's quiet departure from the scene. Such great stuff by the super talented team of Greg Land and Matt Ryan. Congrats!!

Oh, I KNOW you're a fellow fan of the run, Paul, Mr. owner of the Ultimate FF 21 cover :) Love that one, man! The first apperance of them zombies! Glad you dig these back-to-back pages, and great point on the crackling energy in those panels...dig how different said energy is between the 2, too. Thanks, man!

I can't lie (out of camaraderie), I hate Land's tracing approach. But I willingly recognize he draws a mean Doom ;)
