DescriptionTransformers has easily been my favorite ongoing series since it launched last year. Even as an 80’s kid who enjoyed the original cartoon, I never really got into any of the comics. I tried with IDW’s lengthy run but I had a difficult time getting into it. It wasn’t until Daniel Warren Johnson was given the opportunity to lead Skybound’s ongoing Transformers title as a part of the larger Energon Universe that really gave me an incredibly accesible jumping on point!Jorge Corona took over the art duties on issue 7 and wow did he deliver! In many ways, and I know this may be an unpopular opinion (and not a knock on DWJ at all as I truly love his art), I prefer Jorge’s art for this series. Jorge took DWJ’s intense action and added his own flair which also has a bit more of an animation feel to it. I was immediately impressed & taken by what Jorge was able to do. This page is one of five Transformers pages i recently received! They are all from the second Transformers story arc. I targeted this page for variety of reasons. First off I loved the inking of the huge energy blast at the center of the page. I love the crumbling of Jetfire’s wing. Each panel has something fun to offer, be it the close up of an Optimus that has been fatigued by war or that last panel that is reminiscent of Vietnam War era imagery of soldiers hanging out of a helicopter (a friend said it best “It’s very Apocalypse Now”). The detailing on the cargo bin they are traveling in on that last panel is fantastic too! Just an all around fun & energetic page that is merely setting the stage at the beginning of this absolutely balls to the wall issue, one that is just jam packed with action & story! If interested at all, I did record an unboxing video of all of my Jorge Corona Transformers pages. Nice page, hope to see the others. Also, I agree, big fan of Jorge's work on this series. Congrats on your new Energon art.

Looking at this scan up close now since first seeing on your unboxing and seeing the energy in the piece I can see why Jorge was chosen to follow up DWJ on this already highly praised run. congrats on the new pickups!

Thanks Kavi! He was such a pleasant surprise! It's like his art here is infused with DWJ stylings but all together still his own thing! I love it!

Yeah, it's DWJ infused, but cleaner looking. I still find it quite amazing that you loved the cartoon as a kid bit never got into any of the comics until the launch of this series! I just received a copy of the first TPB, so I'll soon find out if it's actually any good or just another Blade Runner situation! 🤣

The only comics I had that had Transformers in them were where they showed up in some issues of GI Joe. The Marvel run ended just as I was starting to get my hands on random issues of any comics in the early 90's. IDW had a lengthy run and I tried to get into it, bought some nice collected editions to make sure I was reading them in the proper order but it just didn't immediately hook me so I bailed. This Skybound series is just fun with lots of heart. Great combination & just the kind of series, with obvious roots to the cartoon that I was looking for.
