Description
As big of a fan of Neal Adams that I am...feeling that Neal is the greatest Batman artist of time...I still hold the belief that the best artist of Commissioner Gordon was Jim Aparo.

This title splash really emphasizes my point.

Love the slanted perspective that Aparo drew...and how Gordon is in full control (both from a story telling perspective and from a visual perspective).

We really see the strength of Commissioner Gordon coming through.

Curious to hear if you agree with my assessment.

Bonus: Jim Aparo did the pencils, inking, and even the lettering.

it IS an awesome Commissioner Gordon splash by Aparo (Batman and the rest looks great too as always). I never really thought to rank Batman artists by their Gordon design, that's actually a pretty cool idea to think about in itself - I'll have to weigh that comparison for my own tastes. the Year One design from Mazz is the one stuck most in my memory for my own reading experiences since thats what I started with when it comes to Batman reading - congrats on this awesome splash Jordan!

Mazz has established a simplistic pure art form...and Year One Gordon was very story driven...but I feel Aparo put more "character" into him.  All good stuff.

Peak Aparo time period!  Gordon having those Aparo features of the brow and distinguished older gentleman look was all here in the 70's and lasted into the mid 90's.

I think Aparo's Batman is the Best.  Never thought about the commissioner.   Congrats on an amazing Splash !

Insane splash. The tilted angla makes all the diference.

Let's face it, Gordon isn't usually so front and center.  His tie in this splash is larger than he is usually in any given panel, so there is rarely this much Gordon-detail to be drawn.  I think he looks fantastic, but I also love the minimal Noir-Gordon from the Year One Maz books as well.  Lots of good stuff to be said all-around.  That being said, this page is a freakin' gem...
