Original Cover Art - Manuel Sanjulian (Spanish, * June 24th, 1941).

'Gate to the Underworld' is a commission painting which will be used as poster in a Science Fiction & Fantasy Calendar which I am working on.

The painting is Manuel's interpretation of a warrior princess and her dragon fighting dark creatures at the gate to the underworld. I like the depth created here with the colors and shadows. Under the wing of the threatening dragon, the entrance to the underworld is difficult to locate, it looks like a bright light, but behind it is the dragon itself.

Oil on vanvas (size: 16.5 x 23.3 in). Stretcher frame plus exterior framing.

Amazing canvas painting! Sanjulian gives classic fantasy vibes with the characters in a dramatic situation brought to life with fiery colors.

By the power of his brush, Sanjulian makes even the gate to the underworld look appealing!!! (his customary palette never disappoints. I'll keep a watch for info on your scifi calendar, but may I please make a special request? Could you please ensure that NOVEMBER has a fantastic image? (My b-day is in that month) Unfortunately, I have found that, for some reason, most calendars seem to have a not-so-great image for my favorite month. Thanks in advace!
