Description
This was really a two-month labor of love, for it's a birthday gift for a boy I see as something of a nephew. When I heard he was a Captain America fan, I thought it would be the perfect gift to do a full sketch of the shield-slinging living legend of WWII. Etched on 11 x 14" you see Steve Rogers in his element with hell breaking loose around him and throwing his iconic shield at a target off-camera. With mixed media, I achieved a beautiful sunset amidst the chaos of war. The tank and plane in view were taken from a WWII reference book on the tools and vehicles implemented during that historical period. I also went the route of Silver Age coloring with the blue-violet tones I used for the brick and masonry around the spotlight Cap is standing in. But I'm most proud of the shield; it took a few days for me to figure out the diameter, curve, and approach to rendering to achieve the final result. Overall, even my uncle was impressed with this piece. I will tackle Captain America again in the near future, but for now, I'm extremely satisfied with the final product and I hope that boy will be too.
