Description

FIRST:

Published ni 1954. If you lived in the time and place of Leo O'Mealia's hey-day, you would know a couple things. 1) He was fantastic at using multiple frames to show a series of actions to a common-place event (within baseball) with a humorous bent. Illustrated here, you see how clever he illustrated one pitched ball bringing unique pain to the three players involved. 2) He was always clever and entertaining, great qualities to newspaper cartoonists of all type and eras. This piece brilliantly brings the human aspect of pain in a way that many sports fans are oblivious.

SECOND:

When comics and sports come together! This picture was created by Leo "the Lion" O'Mealia. Leo was a sports cartoonist for the Rochester Herald, the Rochester Times, The Globe and the New York Daily News. He would always include a cute lion somewhere in his baseball art. Leo O'Mealia was also known for his work on early issues of Action Comics, Adventure Comics and Detective Comics in the late 1930's.
