Description

FIRST:

Branch Rickey was with the Dodgers from 1943 to 1950. And during that time, he brought many wonderful changes to baseball. One such change was that he was instrumental in the development of a Farm System for grooming and bringing up players. This amazing piece by Leo O'Mealia playfully illustrates his involement. Artistically, the quality and care Leo put into this was fantastic for a daily cartoon piece (the horizontal lines in the sky, the tree's shadow on the fence and ground, and the shading/shadow lines on Rickey, and even the faces on the blooming players).

SECOND:

When comics and sports comes together! This picture was created by Leo "the Lion" O'Mealia. Leo was a sports cartoonist for the Rochester Herald, the Rochester Times, The Globe and the New York Daily News. He would always include a cute lion somewhere in his baseball art. Leo O'Mealia was also known for his work on early issues of Action Comics, Adventure Comics and Detective Comics in the late 1930's.
