Palatine Thurzó's soldiers secure Čachtice Castle and arrest Countess Báthory for torture and murder. But her vampiric servant Dorothea escapes:

“In heaven’s name! Return to hell, demon! Aaargh!”

“Soldiers… Be careful!”

“Stop! Don't take a single step! Aaagh!”

“So far, in the dungeons, we have found the bodies of twenty-seven young women. Buried in the fields around the castle, the soldiers have found thirty-two more, but they are still digging.”

“Four of my men are dead, and five more will never see the light of sunrise.”

“My God... The Countess? Did she say something?”

“She refuses to speak, even though I am convinced that...”

In real-world historical records, Thurzó found one living and one dead captive, though Báthory was implicated in the deaths of a far larger number.
