Ryan Quackenbush, Junior Baker Righteous Faker issue 3 page 10

It's no secret that I love Ryan Quackenbush's art. For me it's a happy marrying of Sienkiewicz and McKean style art that just works for me.
The pages are HUGE (which is both good and bad) and the art itself is multi-layered. There's hodge-podge, paste-ups and other textural components to every page.

Most of all, it's just different from everything that's on the market now. Everyone looks to do an homage to some other mediocre artist that has been an influence in comics over the last 30 years instead of striking out on their own.

In this page we see the protagonist/narrator talking to the audience from a study. The presence reminds me of masterpiece theater but more so, the presence of the pipe reminds me of my father. Even though I never knew him to smoke he was an avid pipe smoker before I was born.

This piece hits all of the right buttons for me and I'm very humbled to own it in my collection.
