Description

This story line, which began in Thor 272, brought into the title some actual Norse mythology, and introduced a new Thor that looked more like the mythological version.

As we know, Balder cannot be harmed because of vows made to his mother Frigga by "fire and water, iron and all metals, stones and earth, from trees, sicknesses and poisons, and from all four-footed beasts, birds and creeping things, that they would not hurt Balder." However, there was only one plant who seemed at the time too young to swear - mistletoe.

So when Loki, the trickster, had an arrow made from mistletoe and had the blind god Hoder shoot Balder with it, he is struck down (dead in the myths, here only at death's door). It is the death of Balder that leads to the start of Ragnarok.

Now, Loki is on trial for his deeds, but Red Norvell, the cameraman from Midgard, has become smitten with Sif and dons Thor's belt of strength in hopes of winning her love.

Just look at that beautiful image of Odin,

It totally sells this page

Buscema excelled at drawing this type of book.

Thor was a must read at this point in time.

Thomas,Buscema & Palmer were killing it.

Odin gravitas in his throne room cannot be denied! Norvell may not have won over Sif, but he did have a great career in the NFL as an offensive coordinator. However, he was never considered a great head coach.
