DescriptionI am the correct age to have been able to absorb the classic Cockrum and Byrne run via Classic X-men as those reprints fall right into my nostalgia zone. Having those books and the current of the time Uncanny X-men coming out simultaneously was a perfect storm to create a big X-men fan! One great thing about getting them from the classic X-men was the Claremont/Bolton back up stories that went a long way to fleshing out what just happened. So in the first issues of Classic X-men we get the reprint of Giant Size X-men … then in the back up story we get to see what happens after the battle when all these strangers are now stuck in one mansion together. Bolton does an amazing job fleshing this story out and this page in particular shows that uncomfortable ness even without words… Banshee is on the piano singing some Irish music or Elvis… Colossus is on the couch sketching .. showing that artists heart we learn Piotr has.. meanwhile Nightcrawler blending in the shadows startles Colossus so much that he armors up! Just love this sequence and not sure any other artist could bring it to life like Bolton!Social/Sharing |

Good one! People who thought they were just reprint stories missed out. Very cool transformation panels. I guess Colossus ruined a good shirt. I guess Bolton wanted to show off Banshee in the center of the page who has quite a set of pipes.

fantastic Bolton artwork, such a great issue/backup story and important time for X-Men fandom as you described. congrats, great addition!

Splendid John Bolton page from Classic X-Men! Like you, I loved the back-up stories in Classic X-Men. And Bolton really delivers a terrific page here with Nightcrawler surprising Colossus during a quiet evening off. Beautifully staged action by the very talented Mr. Bolton. Fantastic Pick-up, congrats!

These Claremont/Bolton back-up stories were some of the best the X-Men had to offer in the latter half of the '80s - nice pick-up!
