DescriptionAnother brilliant Michael Bair splash from the Unity Year Book featuring an amazing image of X-O Manowar. The sheer amount of detail on this page is amazing and looking at it closely, I think that it must have taken the artist several hours to craft it. Having patience and perserverance is one thing - but also having the skill to pull it off is another set of abilities altogether. Both are in abundance here, working in tandem with each other.I must confess that while I read the books when they were first published three decades ago, I wasn't a huge Valiant fan. But there is no gainsaying the fantastic artwork that graced the pages of the books of this particular company then. And this piece was so impressive that I had no hesitation purchasing it immediately. Social/Sharing |

Many thanks, John. For a situation such as this, you'll need more than an umbrella!

Another spectacular X-O splash, indeed! I loved this period of Bair's career and it isn't difficult to see why. This one makes for a great side by side pairing with the other one in a portfolio!

Many thanks, Rubén. Yes, it does indeed. The detail on this particular piece is absolutely insane.

The incredible made possible! An inker's touch and patience is definitely needed here as Bair demonstrates X-Os power that made the character and the Valiant line so popular during it's V1 phase!

Many thanks, Marcus. I think that your reference to touch and patience is truly an understatement - looking closely at this piece of artwork, I really don't know how he managed to do it!

Many thanks, Dave. Bair really knocked these splash pages out of the park! And the best thing is that, going by today's prices, they were pretty reasonably priced as well.

Many thanks, Dave. As mentioned, the details on this piece are absolutely - as you've so precisely put it - insane. The scan doesn't really do it justice.

the circular patterns mirror/reflect and similar space background complements with the prior piece really well, like they were made to be next to each other (I don't know if that's actually true or not from the published book but would not be surprised!). also nothing wrong with wanting a piece for art's sake versus having a strong connection to the storyline or universe

Many thanks, Corey. I don't know how the artist did it. It required so much patience to achieve the intended effects on the page itself.

Not familar with Bair, but I love this page, with it's pure power and deep ink details.

Many thanks, CJ. I wasn't for a long time too, but it turns out that he is an excellent artist who devotes meticulous attention to detail (as this piece demonstrates).
