Amazing Stories interior illustration for the story by H.B. Fyfe

They didn't think of themselves as pioneers.
They simply had a job to do.
And if the had to give up money, or power, or love
- or life itself
-that was the Fee of the Frontier.

I am always happy to add an illustration from one of the great Science Fiction illustrators.
Edmund Alexander Emshwiller (February 16, 1925 – July 27, 1990) was an American science fiction artist. He produced several hundred cover and thousands of illustrations wining the Hugo Award five times.

Why artworks suddenly Frontier
Every line pioneers?
Just like fees,
The long story
Job to do.

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every kind of sci-fi?
Just like me,
They long for Fees
Job to do.

Illustration you now own the greatest of Emshwiller
And decided an Amazing dream come true.
So, they sprinkled moon dust in your stare at gold
And star light H B Fyfe so true.

That is why all the worlds that count
Follow you all around.
Just like me,
They long for Fees
Paid by you.

You know, as I look at this beautiful illustration, it dawns on me that, much like Frank Frazetta, I think Ed Emshwiller's pen & ink was more impressive than his painting ability. I don't how much interior story illustration work he did, but the originals for them certainly don't appear on the open market in even remotely the same numbers as his covers have in the past. Great looking piece!

Excellent! It also would fit with an Outer Limits episode!
