Description

Kicking off my Class of 2025 X-Men Cover Recreations is Nicolo Ielapi's rendition of the cover to New Mutants #72. He did a wonderful job capturing the original essence of the cover, adding little touches of his own.

I became aware of of Nicolo through Cadence Comic Art in Fall 2023, when he was coming over to attend NYCC with his partner, Erica D'Urso, who I'm also a fan of.

Since Cadence was taking a list and I liked his style, I signed up. We ended up settling on this one from my list because of Nicolo's preference for monsters and a great sketchbook piece he did for me at NYCC.

He wrapped the commission in late 2023, but we all know what happened with Cadence shortly thereafter.

That said, I wasn't worried because the piece was done and I figured it would all work out.

Sure enough, Andrew Christman, who has since founded Kinetic Collectibles, got me squared away on this piece, along with all of my outstanding items that remained at Cadence, picking this up when they saw Nicolo at Lake Como earlier this year. Much thanks to Andrew for making sure everything was made whole on my end!

Very happy to add this to the cover recreation efforts and show off what Nicolo can do.

I'd imagine the original Blevins cover would look similar with the black background as well to create that effect that the colorist used.

Spot on recreation right down to the cool faces in the background! His heavy ink style came through beautifully. Great to see you get this thing in hand!

Oh, channels the great Bret Blevins but still all Nicolo! Love those background faces adn how the black frames Magik and N'astirh. Congrats!
