Description

I still remember staying up until 3AM trying to win this original art page on Heritage, but lost it because I fell back asleep. Luckly, I connected with Ron Frenz and Scott Catskill and they gave me permission to use a digital copy to create a blue line page to be inked.

At the Charlotte North Carolina Art & Comics show I met up with Joe Rubinstein and commissioned him to ink this amazing two-page Silver Surfer splash page. The original was inked by Joe Sinnott, so it's fun to see the differences between these two amazing inkers.

If you look at the inking side-by-side you see Sinnott was a very solid style while Rubinstein has a much softer style that blends lines and shapes. Rubinstein also uses a mechanical stutter stroke on the blast points that adds a cool effect (versus just a solid straight line).

Pretty nice job by Frenze and Rubinstein to capture the 60's cosmic look with fluidity of line enhancing the power Kirby put into the Surfer's dynamism.
