Whoa! Are they being shot down? Looks a lot more like a midair collision!

Pretty grim. In this case, it seems flak took off the nose. At least the pilot launched the torpedo.

Furious depiction of the battle. It is as overwhleming as possible by Glanzman. I wonder if he adds these names in the artwork in honor of people he served with?

Good point. I suspect he did. I want to check his autobiographical "A Sailor's Story" for someone named Reed, but my copy is unfortunately in storage and the book doesn't appear to be online or in my local library.
