Description
"Guadalcanal" by Paul S. Newman. April-June 1964.

A Marine kills an enemy infiltrator that gets into his foxhole during an unsuccessful attack.

The Japanese commander of the failed assault shoots himself.

Planes are now able to use Henderson Airfield to interdict attack enemy convoys delivering reinforcements.

On August 23, 1942, Dauntless dive bombers from the airfield and carrier-based fighters riddle a Japanese convoy.

"THE MARINES HAD HELD AND THE COLONEL ICHIKI, BURNING HIS REGIMENTAL COLORS ENDED THE ATTACK BY BLOWING OUT HIS BRAINS"

War is hell.

I love how the gun in the 2nd panel and the jet in the final (inset) panel are so tightly delineated, to capture our attention, while everything else on the page is drawn very loosely.

A turning point in the story and in the war!  Death before dishonor!
