Description

15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Journey into Mystery #3 Page 2 SHAMBLER FROM THE STARS Original Art (Marvel, 1973). Jim Starlin and Tom Palmer. From the Tom Palmer Collection.

A man finds a copy of an occult book which allows him and a fellow occultist to summon the Shambler from the Stars. It kills the one who read the summoning, but the man burns the book and the house down. The police arrest him and charge him with murder but he tells his lawyer that he knows that the Shambler will come for him in jail.

Starlin and Palmer! Superstars elevating the Marvel horror line and catching the mood and appetite of the country in the early 70's with more sophisticated stories.

This looks far more like Tom Palmer pencils and inks! You could wade through all that ink for days and still never find even a hint of Starlin's pencils. I love Palmer's work though, and his brush work is very well suited to the dark atmosphere of the story, so I'm okay with it!
