Beautifully rendered and it was great to meet you at OAX !
I felt this was one of the standout pieces in this year's auction, appealing both in composition and color. Congrats!
Just a phenomenal piece of work by Uko. GIves me Stroman vibes. That's a great vibe.
Congratulations on the OAX pick-up! :)
Very surreal imagery and love the subtle differences in color pallette between the two. Enough to set the separation of two different characters but keep them together in the art.
Every night in my piece
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know Uko's on
Far across exhibits
Art pieces between us
You have come to show Uko's on
Near, far, we're in Wakanda
I believe that the art show goes on
Once more, the auction's a war
And you're here bid my art
And my heart will go Orlando
Love paint brush this art line
For Black Panther's lifetime
And never let go 'til there's Storm
Love was when I loved hues
One true time mohawk too
In my wife, we'll always go on
"I'm the king of Wakanda!!!" Woooo!!" Arms outstretched, yelling, maybe at the front of a boat or something :)
Thanks, MW, and all, for the adds!
Sounds like you (and everyone else) had fun ;)
I agree you. The conposition, poses and colors are excellent!! Very nice one!
Ultimate Marvel Team-up! The colors and character design are nothing short of fantastic! I love that they are both looking the same direction towards an opposing threat. I definitely wouldn't want to be on the other end of that :) Nice one KG!
Uko is a beast and quietly underrated. So much to love about how softly he approaches a piece yet still generates so much power in his chracters. Love the guy's work and this is no exception. Congrats, auction man!
Also: "late night spirits" sounds like we were convening with the ghosts of our ancestors. Which we very well may have been.
Lol! 'Tis possible I suppose! Mayhaps someone around that fire has a distant relation to an Earl of Sandwich ;)
Appreciate the add, man, and totally agree regarding Uko's work. Thanks!
It was like this one was made for you, I would have gone after it too but Uko did a Storm for me at the show and you can't get them all!
Beautiful! Congrats!
Nice win, nice piece, nice guy! always great seeing you dude and good job on being an extremely knowledgable co-host of the Collections In Black gallery, I enjoyed looking through there several times. Until next time!
Thanks, bud! Glad you like the piece as well as going through the CiB gallery! Was kinda hectic getting it set up but was glad to hear great things from those that visited!
As you say, 'til next time!
I love this!
Uko was doing some great work at OAX. Congrats!
Glad to see this ended up in the right collection. Congrats!
So very impressive!!!
Very lovely looking piece. At first glance I thought you picked up a Stelfreeze piece. Very nice aesthetic, all the masks are an especially nice addition to the overall whole. Mohawk Storm for the win!
Awesome win! Love the color pallete used. Beautiful piece!
Great combo from Uko, congrats!
I love Uko's work - a great local talent in my area who I have watched through the years. Congrats on the auction win - I wondered who took this beast down.
This Uko Smith piece looks great on the scan and looked even better when I saw it at the OAX auction. All of the Uko's influences are apparent but it doesn't seem like he's overly influenced by any one of hte artists he cited in his recent CAF interview. A real harmonious artistic blend.
Glad you like, Mark! I like the word "harmonious" :) I haven't watched the interview and will try to get to it soon but what were some of those influences he mentioned? I'm curious of course but I'm thinking it could be cool to have here for others who read other collector comments and are also curious. Thanks for the add!
Sorry, it was not a pre-OAX video but one of the ones done during the show. Here's the clip. Uko cites Michelangelo, Frazetta, Byrne, Stroman, and Patrick Nagel.
Absolutely gorgeous illustration by Uko Smith! Love this combination of Black Panther, Mohawk Storm and an African mask! Powerfully composed montage with stunning colors. Love the graded blacks of T'Challa's costume and the casual white tank top and leather pants of Ororo. A splash of mint green in the background provides some contrast and pushes the figures forward. Plus, the addition of the African mask gives the whole illustration a sense of authenticity. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
I came into OAX not knowing much about Uko's work, but I left a fan because of pieces like this one. Phenomenal auction pick-up.
