Description

In honor of the Super Bowl - here is the original comic strip art for Doonesbury dated January 19th, 1979. This strip stars Duke, Garry Trudeau�s famous character based on Hunter S. Thompson. Duke has just been fired as a Redskins coach by the owner, Edward Bentt Williams, for causing a team drug scandal. After escaping a fire-fight with a federal marshal called to Redskins Park when Duke refused to leave, Duke has flown to Miami to find Williams at the Super Bowl. After a drug-fueled night at the Miami Ramada Inn, Duke is having trouble remembering his plan to track Bennett down and �grease him�. Bennett�s clueless nephew is there to stop Duke.

Duke's scandal is nothing compared to the Dan Snyder era. Trudeau probably wouldn't get too far with how comics strips get censored by the Washington Post today.

So happy that Snyder is finally gone. I agree, getting into a fire-fight with Feds and trying to "grease" an NFL owner would probably not fly now. Thanks for commenting!
