DescriptionWhen I saw that Maxi was returning to OAX this year I knew I would be adding another piece from him to the collection! Knowing that he has knack for capturing lighthearted joy in his pieces I decided to give him the prompt of Beachcomber out enjoying nature, a characteristic I love about him. Maxi mentioned that he loved drawing nature elements & has been enjoying the DWJ helmed Skybound series.I was able to meet up with Maxi at the OAX VIP dinner and had a great conversation with him about his approach to the piece (which was still being worked on) and he mentioned he loved being able to draw both natural elements as well as the broken up, rusted and damaged metal of the Autobot. The damaged hand also has a wonderfully organic feel to it too! We talked about how that is a great combination of visual elements & my excitement to see the pieces increased immeasurably because I knew it was going to be something special! Cut to when I picked it up from him during the show and I was truly floored at what he was able to accomplish here. Beachcomber bathed in sunlight surrounded by darkened forest elements. Even though Beachcomber has clearly sustained serious damage to his left hand, he still has time to sit with his woodland friends. Clearly the Autobot needs attention but he is still just in the moment, happy to be enjoying a quiet moment amongst the animals. Just a pitch perfect, well executed commission. I was able to have multiple conversations with Maxi throughout the week, and honestly, at this stage of my collecting journey, those are the aspects of the hobby I am enjoying the most. Nostalgia is powerful, but so is meeting & connecting with newer voices in the industry. Social/Sharing |

Maxi has such a great vibe in his commissions. Yeah, the mix of organic and tech is a lovely contrast. Congrats!

Beachcomber is posed like Hitch's George Washington on President's Day! Maxi does a callback to when Optimus crushed a deer to show Beachcomber's gentler more environmentally aware persona.

Oh I forgot to mention, my new collection sub theme is going to be characters sitting or crouching!

Thanks Kavi! For as many variants that Skybound is putting out, this beats many that I have seen, especially in the emotive sense.

Considering what happens to that one deer in issue one, this piece really resonated. Congratulations

Yeah, I was bummed about that too, the show just seemed to fly by! I'll try harder next year to make a meet up happen if we're both there again!

This is a very beautiful and emotive piece, which immediately drew flashbacks to that sad scene at the start of the current Tranformers series!

The layout and vibe of this piece is so good - love the framing with the trees and the contrast of tech and nature that's shown in a positive light. Beautiful!

Fantastic commission. I really like how the trees and shadows frame the piece and how the deer provide the grand scale/size of Beachcomber.
