No one hates waiting for art more than I do, but if this is the result, I would be thrilled. Congrats on a fabulous commission! Wow!
Impressive commission!
nice Cloak & Dagger piece for sure...don't be mad at me for saying this next part though. the 20 year wait where you have to remind the artist you're due a commission and the thing that spurs up that rememberance being a brand new sales/commission opportunity really rubs me the wrong way personally. I understand the better late than never mentality and being greatful to finally get the piece, but that is sort of ridiculous to put people through. Did you actually pay for it 20 years ago?
You're 100% correct. I waited almost 10 years to get a commission from Skottie Y that was of the wrong character only to watch him churn out his daily sketches for sale. I would see him every year and remind him only to be told that he was " busy but working on it." Currently Mark Millar owes me a published piece of art from his personal collection I won in a charity auction. He says he will refund me but then broke off communication with the broker of the charity.
I did pay for this commission back in 2006. Compared to today's prices. It was relatively inexpensive even though it was a good chunk of change for me at the time.
This is why I tend to stay away from commissions. I've been burned or put on the back burner too often. In this case it worked out. I think that. Terry 's style has matured since then and the illustration definitely shows it. He could have easily told me to go fly a kite but stood by his word and paid engagement even though it was from when we were both much younger men.
I feel you EC! Some creative types need to be cornered into doing what they agreed to.
Yes! All else being equal talk about a perfect commission subject in C&D. Shoemaker did his thing here - lotsa energy! Congrats, E!
This looks disappointly similar to a commission from Terry Shoemaker that I posted in January 2025. Dagger's leg are different, and the background is different, and mine is colored, but look how similar.
