Description

Not much to say other than Nicolas crushed this. He went for a different approach than his usual thick paint and really let the drawing show through. ( pic of the scanned drawing below) Also like how he let the color take him in a different direction and set an eerie tone.

The thinner paints not only allow us to see the drawing underneath, but also show the brush strokes and their direction and flow even as Mifune has that anger bottled up in reds.

Great observation. Yeah the bottled up anger is the perfect feeling for this piece. Mifune often looked like he was about to explode!

Oh wow. Was his plan to paint over opaquely but once he saw how incredible the underdrawing looked with the washes, he left it? If so, I approve!
