Transformers UK #151 p.9

C'mon Rodimus, you're not going take getting smacked down like this are you?  It's even more impactful from Hitch's art that makes the Transformers look more human instead of having blocky faces.

we need a 3 for 1 special on comic art as a sales promo tactic somewhere, I'd be willing to face death at the hands of any autonomous robot for the chance! Suddenly I forgot the entire story so I'll have to go back and re-read the whole issue now. The Hitch/Senior art continues to impress~!

You know, it just occurred to me that you haven't given your own thoughts about the style of art in these UK stories. How about it?

I am a big fan of both Bryan Hitch and Geoff Senior. I think it's like the Triangle Era Superman books, everyone probably has their own internal rankings, but Hitch and Senior rank high on mine. Geoff Senior is certainly a 'Top 5' Transformers artist for me. And Bryan Hitch is certainly a 'Top 5' Death's Head artist if anything else, and most would argue #1, yes? There is an elegance, but also a lived-in look to the style of the 'bots in general. Mood is generated with shadows as well as great body language.

Perfect, thanks. Yes, everyone has their own personal Triangle Era Superman artist rankings, for sure. But were you able to access the Transformers UK books as a kid,or did you discover them later on? Where I live, most stores ordered it once or twice and then stopped. Back then, nobody wanted Marvel UK stuff because it wasn't produced in conjuction/continuity with the American material.

They were accessible, but crazy overpriced b/c they were 'imports'.

What I remember is my good friend's older brother who unlike us who had varied interests (Comics, Super Powers, Secret Wars, He-Man, Star Wars, Transformers, etc), his older brother ONLY focused on Transformers. He had a closet full of them. Kept all the boxes. And only collected Transformers comics. So he, of course, had all the UK books, even though these 11 pagers were going for like $6-12 an issue at the time in the States.

We would sometimes sneak in and read the UK books. But that didn't happen too often. It wasn't until the advent of Geocities and people posting scans in the late 90s, and then the Titan TPBs in the early 2000s that I'd really get to read gems like Target 2005, Timewars and Legacy of Unicron.

Ah yes, the cost of those UK books is something I also remember. Not the prices, but just my reaction to how much they cost. So funny that you guys sometimes sneaked into the brother's room to read them, no doubt inwardly terrified of the thought "What if he suddenly comes home?"!
