DescriptionI picked this piece up at OAX and completed one of my convention goals by picking up a painted cover.I had been thinking of getting a piece from the Rohrwild Collection in the past and had reached out to Markus with interest due to how beautiful the pieces were. However, I was unable to complete the purchase due to a number of factors at the time. Luckily, with the Rohrwild Collection being on display at OAX, a second opportunity presented itself. There was a booth for the collection with a number of amazing pieces for purchase. This piece spoke to me due to my love of bubble helmet sci-fi and my love of Alfred Kelsner artwork. An amazing artist that had other pieces on display in the galleries at OAX. I am not very familiar with the Perry Rhodan Story, but from what I have seen of the covers, I am sure I would be quite a fan. I love space sci-fi, and this piece perfectly checked all the boxes for me. It was a pleasure to meet Markus in person at the convention and talk Sci-Fi artwork. I was given a brief introduction to the story and introduced to many other covers from the series. The ones that caught my attention included a character named Pucky. A mouse beaver that gave me Rocket Raccoon vibes, which of course made me feel at home. Maybe a future pick up if I come across the right piece. Perry Rhodan #1857 has a publication date of March 27, 1997, and is noted as Acrylic on illustration paper. Social/Sharing |

Beautifully painted and a very intriguing cover image. Makes me want to read the issue to find out what exactly is going on here. Congrats on a fantastic add!!

Nice cover! This issue is part of the cycle "The Tolkanders." It's about Goedda, a bio-engineered hive-mind which has come from the Tolkandir Galaxy to the Milky Way intending the metamorphasize along the next stage of its evolutionary path. In the process its uncontrolled growth poses a threat to everyone around it; this story seems to have major Akira vibes.
I think the character on the cover is Myles Kantor, a human scientist who possesses one of the series' coveted cellular activators, a regenerative device. Myles has been flying around on a sky-sled (an "Antigravplattform") trying to stop Goedda, but he gets wrecked by its multiplying tentacles, as seen here.

Markus and the Rohrwild Collection within the IAX gallery space was one of the highlights of OAX for me, and I'm glad it was for you as well. Congrats on adding this cool sci-fi cover piece from one of the longest running (or THE longest?) published titles. painted pieces/covers are special!

Al Kelsner is one of my favorite German illustrators next to Johnny Bruck. He has contributed to the PERRY RHODAN pulp series for decades and I love his work. Particularly, his recent pieces are really amazing. I will visit him in June and see what I can find...
