Description
Late for Batman day.

I am not a collector of Batman art but around 1991, Mark Bright was at a local convention with a few pages of art. This was the best page he had with him, so I picked it up, not knowing its significance.
I didn’t have enough cash on me at the time so I had to write a check to a dealer I knew to get the cash to purchase this page.

The Diplomat's Son
written by Jim Starlin

Robin confronts Felipe who assaulted a woman, who ended up taking her own life. When Felipe falls to his death, Batman has his suspicions.
This book was precursor to the Death of Robin storyline.

Bright was always a super solid artist as exemplified here.

Coming out of my page and I've been doing just crime
Gotta, gotta be down, because I want him fall
It started out with a slip, how did he end up like this?
It was only a slip, it was only a slip
Now assaulted by creep and she's feeling like crap
While he's having a Joke and he's faking a bat
Now they're paying by check and my stomach is sick
And it's all in my check, but ink's brushing his

Chest now, he takes off in
Death now, let me go
I just can't Todd, Joke's killing me
They're taking phone poll

Jealousy, burning paints ink through by Steve
Jason Todd sick Starlin writes, choking on your alibis
Bat it's just the price I pay, destiny is falling free
Robin has some meager thighs, 'cause I'm Mr. Bright guy

I don't think this issue helped Jason Todd win any dial-in votes a couple of months later . . .

Yes, I think DC was signaling that it was time for Jason to go.

A fantastic end page with great images! Mitchell's inks were very complimentary with Bright's pencils. I still remember how thrilling it was to see this moment, wondering what the odds were that Robin actually chose to kill Felipe.

Excellent choice! What a great image of Batman thinking he faces a deadly Robin problem! Well composed! ...Mister Chairman, I call for a vote on Jason now...

This is an outstanding page! The look on Robin's face says "yeah, I did it. What are you going to do about it?" Ooooohhhhh

That splash image of Batman with Robin swinging off the page is so doggone good.

Congrats
