Description

A Saturday morning cartoon from 1963 to 1965, The Magilla Gorilla show was one of MANY that I looked forward to seeing. Of course, superhero cartoons were my favorite. But all those crazy Hanna-Barbera cartoons were tickling my young funny bone and imagination.

The whole concept was that a pet store owner (Mr. Peebles) was trying to sell this pet gorilla. Like most H-B cartoons, this gorilla dressed and mostly acted like a human. In every episode, someone would buy him, try to use his strength or some other attribute, problems would occur, and they would return poor Magilla.

Another feature of this and most other cartoons from the 1960's was a theme song that basically explained the purpose of the show. This theme was written by Hoyt Curtain, who also wrote the theme for Jonny Quest.

"Hey, Mr. Peebles!" I loved Magilla Gorilla when I was a kid. This is a great cell.
