Description

This is the original hand-drawn (penciled and inked) art for the August 4, 1961 daily strip of Long Sam, by the great Bob Lubbers. The strip is in very good condition, with some slight discoloration and staining in the margins, and some use of whiteout in the word bubble areas. The full page is large, measuring approximately 21" by 6 1/2" (which we believe is about standard size for most newspaper strip original art). It features a beautiful image of Long Sam in the final panel! Outstanding artwork from the great Bob Lubbers, who is well-known for classic work on many major comic strips, including Robin Malone, Secret Agent X-9, Tarzan, and Li'l Abner. Abner's creator Al Capp had conceived of Long Sam as a takeoff of that strip, but it became a very nice strip in its own right. This is likely one of the best examples you're going to find, with a beautiful depiction of the main character, and great drama. Don't miss a rare chance at a great piece, that would look fantastic framed, and would be a great addition to any collection.
