DescriptionJohn Byrne does his best Kirby/Ayers on this page from 1984's Fantastic Four Special Edition #1.Reprinting Fantastic Four Annual #1, Byrne added five new pages to retell the Sub-Mariner's origin and bring him into the current Marvel continuity. This new art replaced page 18 of the original annual. The originals are numbered 18A-18E at the top of the pages but are numberless in the comic (they are inserted between pages 17 and 19). The first and last panels on this page are copied directly from Jack Kirby's art. Byrne does an excellent job capturing the Kirby/Ayers look of 1963. Social/Sharing |

Byrne selflessly had to keep a lid on his own style to make these Namor pages flow! These brought the classic stories back in a real nice paper to appeal to the 80's collectors who didn't get as many reprints as a decade before.
