Description
Done 2025

I rarely get commission these days but I decided to take a chance at one of Colton's commissions and am very happy with the result.

Dawnstar was created by Paul Levitz and Mike Grell, and first appeared in Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #226 (1977). She was a graduate of the Legion Academy and gained Legion membership after her first mission.
Dawnstar is from the planet Starhaven, a world colonized by Native Americans who were abducted from Earth by an unknown alien species and transformed into winged metahumans. She can fly at light speeds and survive in deep space by generating a self-sustaining force field and she has the ability to track anything in outer space.

Great commission, Colton is a talented painter, really caught the determination of a tracker on a mission in Dawnstar's face.  Nice effects everywhere, from the detailed wings to the eerie glow of her force field.

Miki, from RJ Brande
Why we can't just Colton as each feather lands
This time Worley's the best, I fear
Unless I paint it all too clear
In diagonal, ohh

Take these Colton wings
And Dawn to fly again
Go to space with me
When it's here, then pose again
The book of love Grell Legion art and let us in
Take these Colton wings

Miki, I think tonight
He can take what is Dawn and paint her right, mmm
Miki, it's oil I know
That shows half of her flesh
And pink that makes her glow
I need you so

You know, I've always loved Dawnstar's design, though I've never really known anything about her. But the first thing that came to mind when I saw this was how interesting it was that he made her look Native American. Now that I know that she IS Native American, I have to give props to Worley for going to the extra length to make sure he emphasized that! A wonderful looking piece and I'm glad the commission "risk" worked in your favour with this one! Just one thing though. Why does it appear to be all scratched up?

For some reason my scanner is picking up some of the brush strokes as scratches.

Wow, those are just the edges of the brush strokes lit up by scanner light glare? That's crazy! But hey, if that's all they are and they aren't actually scratches, that's all that matters! I'm relieved to hear it, actually.

That is gorgeous - the highlighting around her makes the figure just leap (soar?) out of the background. Congrats!
