DescriptionLet me start by saying that I am not a big Gambit fan. Off the top of my head, I actually don’t think I have a single Gambit piece in my collection (until now). This is not to say that I DIS-like the character. I probably just don’t really care one way or the other. So now you’re probably wondering, well if that’s the case, then WHY THE HELL ARE WE ALL STARING AT A GAMBIT PIECE????? Haha!
I really enjoy Carlo’s work, for the most part. Granted some pieces are better than others, so there’s still a level of inconsistency there. But I really like a lot of what I’ve seen thus far. Again, the majority of it is pencil only and I must say, when he gets it right, it’s some of the finest pencil work I’ve ever seen. While I wouldn’t say that I had doubts about his abilities as an inker, just the fact that he’s more comfortable doing pencil only made me wonder how that skill set would fare with another medium. But when I saw this Gambit piece, all my concerns were laid to rest. His inking is every bit as solid, lush, and dynamic as his pencils. My thanks to the one and only Kirk Dilbeck for another pleasant and perfect transaction. A big part of what makes collecting fun is the people you deal with. And Kirk is one of the best. Thanks buddy! Huge thanks also to Mr. Pagulayan for this stunning piece. Haven’t been able to stop staring at since it arrived. And if I’m not careful, he just may make a Gambit fan out of me. Anyway, thank you all for stopping by to take a look. Social/Sharing |

Nice Gambit piece by Carlo! and it is indeed cool to see a fully inked piece by him as I am mainly used to seeing his final work inked by Jason Paz on a seperate blueline. Big fan of Carlo's cover work especially for Marvel on Star Wars over the last 5 or so years (I even own one!), great artist and Kirk is great to deal with as well. Thanks for sharing!

Oh man! It was those SW covers (and his "incredible" Hulk commissions) that first got my attention. I thought about getting a Hulk piece for myself, but every time I checked, his commission list was closed. Then I started looking at the Star Wars stuff and honestly I thought I was going to end up with one of those. I kept waiting for the right one to pull the trigger on and then this fully pencilled and inked Gambit piece popped up. Again, I'm not particularly a big Gambit fan, but just the fact that it was pure pencils AND inks, plus being a Marvel character. Took about a half second to make up my mind. Ha! Thanks for the comment buddy!

Thrilled you were able to add a piece by Carlo Pagulayan to your awesome collection, Eric! He's one of my favorite artists and this piece perfectly illustrates why. And totally agreed, Kirk's one of the best in the biz!

Well my friend, you are partially responsible for this. Considering that it was all your killer Hulk commissions by Carlo that helped motivate me to get a Pagulayan piece of my own. So thanks for the comment, but also thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Buddy! So glad you got this awesome piece. Carlo is stellar and this is a shining example of his talent handling both mediums- pencil and ink!

Thanks Marcus. Your comment actually makes me think of the various conversations with other collectors about limiting the size of their collections (I just had one with another collector yesterday). I hear it a lot on CAF of course, but I also hear it pretty much any time I have a visitor who sees my collection in person. I'll grant that it's a fairly large collection (although there are certainly many people in the hobby who have much more artwork than I do). But I've never really understood the idea that one could have "too much" art. What does that even mean. Anyway, rather than get into that here, I will say that I do very much enjoy adding new names to my collection. While I'm obviously not against multiple examples by artists I love, adding a new artist to my list makes me feel like I have a more well rounded collection. So yes, I was very happy to add a new name. And even more so when I can add to my growing list of Filipino artists.

Not particularly big on Gambit either but that's a very dynamic drawing.

"To my friends, de name's Remy LeBeau. To my enemies, it's Gambit!" I love Gambit. Reading your description was a revelation for us to think beyond our favorite characteers. The beauty, style, and unique look of a piece outside your normal focus can drag you in to a purchase you didn't plan on. It's happened to me more than once. For Eric here, he hit a home run.
